Articoli determinativi
L'articolo è determinativo quando si indica un oggetto specifico:
- The Sun arises

Eccezioni rispetto all'italiano:
non si usa al plurale di un sostantivo generico:
- Mi piacciono i cani
- I Like X dogs
non si usa davanti a luoghi per indicare la funzione che vi è svolta:
- Lei andrà al mercato per comprare delle mele
- She will go to X market to buy some apples.
- in X 1994

L'articolo è indeterminativo quando si indica un oggetto generico:
- A star arises
- A hotel /hoʊˈtɛl/ (suono consonantico)
- An apple is on the table
- An hour /ˈaʊə(ɹ)/ (suono vocalico - acca muta)
Eccezioni rispetto all'italiano:
- la forma plurale dei, degli, delle, non ha corrispettivo in inglese.

Se il sostantivo è numerabile si può esprimere sia in forma singolare che plurale:
- Quanti bicchieri di latte hai bevuto? (il sostantivo è in forma plurale)
- How many glasses of milk did you drink?
- Ho bevuyo un bicchiere di latte / molti bicchieri di latte
- I drunk a glass of milk / a lot of glasses of milk
- (INT/NEG) not many
- a car, two cars, few cars (for contable)
- (INT) How _many_ apples do you buy?
- (NEG) I don't buy _many_ apples.
- Qui c'è una mela, delle mele sono sul tavolo
- Here is an apple, a _few_ apples are on the table

Se il sostantivo non è numerabile, non esiste la forma plurale (è invariante)
- Quanto latte hai bevuto? (il sostantivo è in forma plurale)
- How much milk did you drink?
- Ho bevuto poco latte / molto latte
- I drunk little milk / a lot of milk (for uncontable)
- (INT/NEG) not much
- the money, little money
- (INT) How _much_ coffee do you buy?
- (NEG) I don't buy _much_ coffee
- un po' di caffè

Fino ad ora abbiamo specificato l'uso di
- Many/few
- Much/little
Invece questi sono validi sia per sostantivi numerabili sia per sostantivi non numerabili
- some (quantità non esatta)
- (POS) I have some rice
- quite a lot of/ a lot of / lot of (grande quantità)
- (POS preferibile) I eat a lot of apples
- any (SOLO frase negativa e interrogativa)
- (NEG) Here aren't any apples
- Lì non ci sono mele.

- Ti piacerebbe comprare delle mele?
- (POS) I have no apples
- Io possiedo nessuna mela
